DREAMCLOSET

2016 | WASHINGTON, DC

INSPIRATION | holiday decor inspired by the unsung retail workhorse, the clothes hanger

DREAMCLOSET is an original work Inspired by the shape and necessity of a retail coat hanger, in contrast to the unique, one-off complexity of a winter snowflake, we set out to create an installation that played to the intrinsic and symbolic relationship between these 2 iconic symbols of the holiday season. From simple comes sensational, from basic comes beautiful. The installation is comprised of more than 400 ornaments, which were CNC cut from 150 sheets of material, using 8 variations of cut patterns and suspended by more than 4200 linear feet of stainless steel cable.

The installation runs over three city blocks in the center of DC at CityCenterDC and is an artistically whimsical homage to the holiday season: where coat hangers become snowflakes, where revelry, retail and remembrance all seamlessly coexist. Palmer Alley is transformed into a shimmering corridor of, literal and figurative, reflections filled with dynamic ornaments that encourages shoppers, tourists and locals alike to linger, photograph and ‘hang’ in the space.
