1615 l rooftop

2019 | WASHINGTON, DC

challenge | create the equivalent of a hotel rooftop ammenity in an office building

Our design charge for this project was to reimagine the penthouse amenity space, applying our hospitality expertise to make the space feel more like a hotel rooftop and bar. The rooftop lacked shade, making it challenging to enjoy during the summer despite the incredible views of the DC Monuments.

The approach included replacing pavers for a slatted wood decking, a built in tiled bar and a system of shade pavilions with integrated heat. In order to reduce glare and add a sense of placemaking, we worked with a local artist to compose an illustrative-style mural employing the design palette. The penthouse interior also received upgrades to the kitchen, bathrooms and finishes leading up to the entrance in order to create a defined offering.

1615 L Street required a multidisciplinary approach to the programming, finishes, FFE, art curation and construction management. The end result is an inviting, layered space with break out cabanas and large gathering spaces perfect for special events, a long lunch break, or a post-work cocktail.
